Quality Insulation

Quality insulation, tremendous value

Jose Pena knows two things: it will get cold in the winter. And energy prices will continue to rise. "When you insulate, you can save up to 30 percent on utilities," said Jose Pena, director of operations. "It's one home improvement that pays for itself."

With 25 plus years of combined experience, he also knows this: insulation can help soften the impact of both. That's what drives the success of his business, Quality Insulation Professionals.

Heat loss comes from two sources: infiltration occurs when air from the outside comes into the room, such as from a poorly sealed window or joint. Radiation is heat loss through building materials, such as an uninsulated wall.

Insulation can help stop both by trapping dead air, forming a barrier between inside and out. Insulation can come as fiberglass batting, foam, or loose material that is blown into empty wall spaces and ceilings. Some insulation also offers the benefit of sound insulation, yielding a quieter home.

Quality Insulation Professionals an authorized Owens Corning dealer exclusively uses blow-in and bat insulation manufactured by Owens Corning, and distributed by IDI Distributors, who provide "impressive support," said Pena, making sure that material is always in stock for a job.

Part of the stimulus plan, homeowners can claim a tax credit of 30 percent of the cost of installation of insulation, up to $1,500, for work that is completed by January 31, 2010. You apply for the credit on your 2009 Federal tax return.

Local codes call for R-30 insulation in the ceiling of new construction, while the wall code calls for at least a 3.5" bat, which works out to about R-13, said Pena.

"While these are the minimums, to install the correct amount of insulation for a particular cavity or ceiling, you need to make a professional judgment," he said.

Handling insulation can be a challenge for do-it-yourselfers, whether they have to deal with messy and hard-to-control blowers or the fiberglass strands that get in your skin.

Professional installer's seal the rooms in which they're working, and "we can be in and out of there in a couple of hours," said Pena.

Recent customer and home owner Oliver Melloway states, "I chose to have the Pro-Pink blown-in wall system applied in areas that are not climate controlled my attic and garage walls." "After the service was completed, I experienced a noticeable change in over-all temperature." He then added, "I was impressed with their professionalism and how reasonably priced they were." "I would definitely recommend their service. They did an outstanding job"!

If you're tempted to just wait out the winter without properly insulating your home, consider that the same insulation that keeps you warm in the winter also keeps you cool in the summer.

"Homeowners really benefit from good insulation," said Pena. "It provides tremendous value."
